F.A.Q.'s

Do you deliver, or do I need to pick up my order?

I do prefer to have customers pick up cakes from my house, so that if anything needs to be changed, I have easy access to all of my tools. I'm located near the intersection of 114 and 377 in Roanoke.  Delivery is available at an additional charge.  Please contact me for information on delivery prices, as I'll need to use your address to determine the charge.

What is cheaper, cupcakes or a cake?
Cupcakes can be cheaper per serving if you just want them decorated with sprinkles or simple fondant toppers on only some of the cupcakes. If you want detailed fondant toppers, a one tier cake is probably the least expensive option. I'm happy to give you price quotes that show different options.

Why is the number of servings different for a wedding cake? Are the servings smaller?
My party cake tiers are about 4 inches tall, while my wedding cake tiers are 5 inches tall.  Since each slice is taller, you can get more slices out of a cake, but each slice is still the same amount of cake.

Why do you charge more for wedding cakes?
Wedding cakes usually take at least twice as long to make as a typical party cake.

I want to make sure I’ve got plenty of cake, and I like to give bigger portions.  What should I do?
The standard serving size in the industry is about 1 1/2 in. x 2 in x 4 in.  This is the size that I use for my price quotes.  I understand that some people just want more cake—maybe you want bigger pieces, maybe you want leftovers, or maybe you just want the look of a bigger cake.  I want to make you completely happy, so please let me know if you want more servings.  Just remember that the price will reflect the number of standard servings.

Can you do character cakes?
Yes and No.  If I make the character out of fondant or frosting, this infringes on copyright laws.  However, you can purchase figurines to go with a cake that I decorate.  Or, I can design a cake for you that fits perfectly with the theme, without using the actual characters.  I can also help you purchase an edible image to use on the cake.

Do you take last-minute orders?
Sometimes I can fit in an order with just a few of days’ notice, as long as the design is not too complicated.  However, I am often booked.  Usually it is best to book your cake at least a month in advance.  For a pickup on Friday or Saturday, you must book by Monday. I do not take orders with less than 3 days notice.

Do you do cake tastings?
Yes, definitely!  Cake tastings are highly encouraged for wedding cake orders.  Tastings are usually not done for non-wedding cakes, but I can certainly arrange one for you if you’d like!  At a cake tasting, you get to choose 4 cake flavors and 3 filling flavors to sample.  You will also get to sample my buttercream frosting (other frostings and fondant may be sampled if requested, for an additional fee).  After sampling all the yummy combinations, we will go over design and fill out a wedding cake contract.  You do not have to sign the contract right away, there is no pressure.  You can always return the contract later to reserve your date.  The $20 fee for the tasting will be applied to your total if you choose to order a cake priced at $100 or more.

Do you require a deposit?
A deposit equal to half of the price of the cake is required to reserve your date.  This deposit is non-refundable.  If you need to reschedule your event, the deposit may be transferred as long as this is taken care of at least one week in advance of the original event date. The new date must be within 2 months of the original date in order to keep your deposit.  Please keep in mind that I may not be available on your new event date.

Why is the deposit non-refundable?
Once I book your cake, I may have to turn other customers away.  Having a deposit assures me that you are a serious customer who will not cancel at the last minute, leaving me with a half-made cake and no one to pay for it.
