Serving Sizes-How much cake do I need?

Many bakeries will say a cake serves a large amount of people, but when you cut it by their guidelines, you end up with tiny pieces!  I choose to be more generous with my serving sizes, making each serving approximately 2in by 1 1/2in.  Of course, if you want to make your cake serve more people than I recommend below, that is your option.  Depending on what else is being served at your event, you may only want small pieces.  But my guidelines below will help you know how much cake you will need for your event.  All serving sizes are based on a traditional two-layer party cake (about 4 inches tall), and of course you can combine different cake sizes to create a tiered look that will give you the number of servings you need.  Please note: these serving amounts are for party cakes only--since my wedding cakes have 3 layers and are 4 inches tall, the number of servings is more for the same size of cake.  Please contact me for information on wedding cake serving sizes.
